Contributions to Archives

Fieldwork

Margaret has spent more time recording other people than on making her own recordings. As a professional folklorist, she has made major contributions to Folklore Archives on both sides of the Atlantic. Much of the material has been published in her books:

1971-75 (Post-graduate student)

Approx. 50 tapes contributed to Memorial University of Newfoundland Folklore Archives. M.U.N. Folklore Archives, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland, CANADA

1975-76 (Folklore research project)

Approx. 20 tapes contributed to the Centre for Folk Cultural Studies, National Museum of Civilization, Ottawa. (All indexed and fully transcribed. A further 40 hours recorded 1992-95, in School of Scottish Studies Archive).

1984-95
(Tenured lectureship University of Edinburgh)

(While full-time lecturer at the School of Scottish Studies): Approx. 250 tapes contributed to the Sound Archive of the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh. School of Scottish Studies, The University of Edinburgh, 27 George Square, Edinburgh EH8 9LD .

Fieldwork recordings from 1998 to present are lodged with the new Archive of the RSAMD.
