Prizes and literary awards

Margaret Bennett’s books and articles give voice to ordinary people whose lives reflect Scottish tradition at home and abroad. She weaves many voices of tradition through her extensive research, thus validating the authenticity of genuine tradition. Furthermore, she attempts to explain certain changes, trends and modifications across the centuries and generations.

Winner of the Michaelis-Jena Ratcliff Folklore Prize at the Centennial celebration of the International Folklore Congress in London - For " her major contribution to the study of folklore in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales." June l991.
Book nominated - The Last Stronghold: Scottish Gaelic Traditions of Newfoundland - Published by Canon Gate

Winner of the College of Cape Breton award - Prof. Donald Fergusson Essay Prize 'for a topic relating to the study of Gaelic traditions': for her Essay - "Gaelic Song in Eastern Canada: Twentieth Century Reflections" 1995.


Other Awards

	Honorary membership of the TMSA Dr Margaret Bennett, formerly member of the School of Scottish Studies University of Edinburgh and popular singer was conferred an honorary membership of the TMSA for promoting traditional song TMSA's National Conference on Traditional Music at the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh on the 31st of March, 2007

Celtic Women International Award Awarded in 2003 - Exceptional Celtic Woman Award for "Lifelong Service to Scottish and Celtic Culture" at the annual conference of Celtic Women International held in Toronto Oct. 3-5.

	Master Music Maker Award Awarded in 1998 - Master Music Maker Award 'in celebration of a lifetime of musicianship and teaching, Warren Wilson College - Swannanoa Gathering - North Carolina.

Lifetime Honorary member of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Awarded in January 1994 "for notable service...rendered to the people of Scotland".
